Turkey's fire code doesn't explicitly mandate seismic design; NFPA 13 is applied when referenced. A significant gap.

After the Kahramanmaraş earthquakes, sprinkler pipes broke in many malls, hospitals, and hotels. No fire, but water damage followed. Systems without seismic protection drained. This experience shows seismic bracing must become mandatory in Turkey.
Test and Acceptance
- Every sway brace: visual check + torque wrench
- Flexible coupling: manufacturer certificate + install verification
- At acceptance: engineer signature + as-built documentation
- Annual inspection: NFPA 25 Chapter 9 seismic component check
Common Mistakes
- No sway bracing: Missing even in new Turkish projects.
- Wire ties instead of braces: Non-UL improvisation.
- Flexible coupling missing: Guaranteed break at expansion joint.
- Too few riser clamps: Vertical pipe sways.
